This disease affects both genders equally, begining around the teen years or young adult hood, but it may occur later in life. Sometimes schizophrenia may occur in children, which is then called Childhood-onset schizophrenia. It occurs after the age of 5 and may be hard to tell the difference between other developmental problems in childhood, such as autism.

Schizophrenia symptoms usually develop slowly over months or years. Sometimes with a few symptoms, and sometimes with very few symptoms.

At FIRST: Irritable or tense feeling, trouble concentrating, and trouble sleeping

NEXT: Bizarre behaviors, hallucinations, isolation, lack of emotion, feeling like you have ADHD, delusions

FINALLY: Symptoms that depend on the type of schizophrenia you have

  • Disorganized schizophrenia: Childlike behavior, problems thinking and expressing ideas, not much emotions

To counter this disease, Antipsychotic medications are the most effective treatment for schizophrenia. However the short term and long term side effects can be devastating. In the old days they shocked your brain with ELECTRICITY!
